I'm playing against the New York Jets. It's a rainy evening of Monday Night Football.
My team played pretty well in the first half, leading 21-12 at the half. The third quarter was scoreless, and I score 10 more points to kick off the 4th quarter.
So the score is 31-12 when things start going downhill for my team. The Jets have the ball at their 25-yard line following a kickoff with just over 5 minutes to go in the 4th quarter. They pick apart my defense to drive 75 yards down the field for a TD in 6 plays, taking two and a half minutes of the clock. The score is 31-19 with 2:24 to go. At this point I'm not worried, I got this.
Everyone is lined up for an onside kick. The kick is low, hits one of my WRs in the leg, and bounces straight into the hands of a Jets TE. Jets have the ball at their 45. They go down the field for another TD, taking one minute off the clock. The score is 31-26 with 1:25 to go. Whatever, there's no chance they'll recover another onside kick.
Another onside kick incoming. The kick bounces high, my WR (the same one as the last kick hit) can't catch the ball, a Jets TE (yes, the same one as last kick) dives on top of the ball to recover. You have got to be kidding me. Jets have the ball at their 48. They start the drive with 3 incomplete passes. 4th and 10 at their 48. Just one more stop and the game is over.
Yeah, right. They convert with an 18-yard pass over the middle. You can probably imagine the rest. They drive the rest of the 52 yards for a TD in 9 plays, taking all but 17 seconds off the clock. They convert their 2-point attempt, so the score is 31-34 with 0:17 to go.
They kick off, touchback. Luckily my team still has all their timeouts left. We get to the Jets 20-yard line, kick a FG to force overtime as the time expires. 34-34 end of regulation.
In overtime, the Jets go three-and-out, and we get the ball. It's a promising drive near midfield. My TE makes a catch at the Jets 30-yard line, gets hit..and fumbles. Jets recover. A few plays later, they connect on a 50-yard pass to get to our 5-yard line, kick a field goal, game over. 34-37 Jets.
So the Jets poured 22 unanswered points on me in 4 minutes and 45 seconds, went 2 for 2 on onside kicks, and then won the game in OT. Fun times!

Nope, CPU vs. CPU using KIT's sliders. Thanks anyway!
Re: My Team Had the Meltdown of the Century
I dont know about cpu v cpu but when I play i try not to give the ball to the cpu with 2mins left. All qbs go Joe Montana on me, even if they hace 89 accuracy, every pass arrives perfectly well in the receiver's bread basket.
I can only stop a two min qb with a pass rush or an interception.
And that meltdown was one for the ages. Did you break anything?

Yeah, the CPU definitely got a miracle boost in the last 5 minutes And didn't break anything, I just stared at the screen for a while wondering what just happened

Someone in your Special Teams unit and/or your Special Teams coordinator should be fired after botching so many onside kick recoveries.
Semper fi
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Always have a plan. And a backup plan. And backups to the backup.
And be able to improvise.

You can be sure the WR who botched the recoveries is no longer in the kick return formation. One of my best WRs otherwise though.
Re: My Team Had the Meltdown of the Century
It's well established that the CPU teams play far better after the 2 minute warning compared to the rest of the game. I haven't seen a Madden 08 game with two consecutive onside kick recoveries, however. That's pretty brutal!

Very brutal indeed!
Speaking of onside kicks, I still haven't figured out how to line up on the other side when the opposing kicker is a lefty. I can only switch between normal and onside to the left of the screen.

No idea. Does a lefty kicker in Madden kick the ball to the right where there's no one to recover it?
