You are perfectly right, 33 is not that old for a QB. Maybe I wouldn't have said that before a few years ago.

My main concern is not his accuracy, it is his mobility. I don't actually run forward with my QBs, but I like to roll out to find lanes and/or buy time when there is pressure. I might have to adapt my playing style if I choose to keep Truman many more years.

Note: RevanFan, reading your journal has really inspired me to be more patient with my aging/regressing players. Still, not many of my players finish their career in Anchorage, but I've learnt not to care as much about speed.

Note: achernar, I chose to keep him another year, but I'm kind of hoping the Argos tank, that I can get high picks for Truman in the offseason, and that I get to face the Argos next season. Would make a nice storyline to face a Truman/Stone/Newman team.

Speaking of storylines, I will be facing the revamped Cowboys this season, in week 15. So unless we play to a rare tie, Dallas and Anchorage can't both go unbeaten like two seasons ago.

StreamedData.db - PYRA table. I'm not sure what all the values mean, but there are threads about it on this forum from a few years back. Just search for it.

More personnel moves

The gutting of Anchorage's veterans continued, as defensive back Marc Tanner (converted in a strong safety) was traded to the San Juan Vortices for a second-round pick.

The team traded WR Byron Lucas to Toronto for a late-round pick, and released CB Sidney Kymer, who was signed by Toronto. This makes a lot of storylines for the week 3 tilt against the Argonauts, as all those former Yetis are now in the opposing camp:

The Blizzard is lacking a 1st-rounder after a regretful acceptation of the Patriots' trade to move up one spot in the last draft. However, they currently have two 2nd-rounders, three 3rd-rounders, two 4th-rounders and three 5th-rounders as a result of maneuvering during the draft and other trades.

Preseason injuries and personnel moves

The preseason is usually uneventful, but this year, the Blizzard suffered two significant injuries. LT Blake Riddle will miss half the season with a dislocated hip, while WR Todd Rogers suffered a season-ending broken wrist.

To make up for Riddle's injury, Chris Winters will start at LT, while rookie RT Jim Sindle will get the starting nod. T Rob Buchanan was also signed as an emergency policy, while current RG J.K. Lewis also has experience at the position.

WR Joe Schwartz was also signed as a depth receiver.

Week 3 update

The Blizzard showed some good and some bad.

QB Marty Jackson's first start was absolutely miraculous, with over 400 passing yards, 5 TDs and no interceptions. Yes, it was against the rebuilding Packers, but he still kept making those throws. Bubba Brady also showed that he still has it.

The most anticipated game of the year was a good one, though it showed some of Anchorage's weaknesses.

All eyes were on Sheldon Stone, but it is HB Javy Smith who opened the scoring with a 62-yard run.



Stone did get involved, and he made the best of it. Here he beats his coverage for a 34-yard TD.



Julio Stokes would cut the lead in half, but Carl Plummer would give the Argos a 10-point lead at the half.

Orlando Thomas follows Stokes perfectly but misses the interception.


Bubba Howry would make it a one-possession game early in the 3rd quarter, but Sheldon Stone would strike again, this time on 73 yards.



Josh Sindle kept his team in the game by powering into the endzone, but yes, Sheldon Stone would strike again on an 83-yard TD.




Jewell Nelson had a great game, and here he tallies a safety. Not only did it prevent Jackson to locate his target downfield, but it scored two important points and regained possession for his team.



Brad Koler would make it a 10-point game with this acrobatic catch, but the team would miss the 2-point conversion, which sealed the game with less than a minute to go.



This week, Bubba Brady was mostly neutralized. Here, he pays the price for a 10-yard run.

Week 9 update

For the first time in a while, there is no still-unbeaten team at the midway-point, and there is actually a race for the best record. There are currently 5 teams with one or two losses:

-The Argonauts (7-1) beat the Blizzard, Cowboys and rival Wildcats, but were blown out 56-10 by the Saints. They are still a favorite for the Super Bowl.

-The Ravens (7-1) were unbeaten until this week, when they were blown out 69-24 by the Blizzard.

-The Cowboys (7-2) were mostly dominant, but dropped games against the Broncos and the Argonauts.

-The 49ers (6-2) lost against the Vortices and the surprising Titans.

Finally, the Blizzard (7-1) didn't lose since week 3, but they came close in week 5 against the Clayton Truman-led Titans. Even though their new QB elevates them considerably, no one thought this tilt would come this close between perennial contenders and last year's 2nd-worst record. Truman was surgical on his short passes, but was not in rhythm with his receivers, as several long throws were dropped or deflected. Still, Truman mounted a 4th-quarter comeback that fell short.

Interesting notes:

-QBs Marty Jackson and Tai McLean have been rotating, as neither decisively grabbed the starting spot. McLean tossed for 427 yards and 7 touchdowns in his first career start (week 4 against the Snow Cats) but Jackson has also been playing well.

-DT Conrad Wheeler was mostly silenced in two of his three starts, but was stellar in the game against Pittsburgh, as he led all defenders with 7 tackles (including 2 sacks). The team has an enviable problem, as DT Mark Phillips has also been doing well.

-The team has been toggling its personnel more than usual, trying to find and keep the good combinations.

-Still in week 7 against the Steelers, there was an interesting drive. Anthony Carufel caught his first career interception, but fumbled it and Pittsburgh recovered. Then, 1 or 2 plays later, Carufel comes down with the interception again and keeps it. Technical question: does this count as two interceptions on the same drive?

-Brady and Stokes are on pace for another 2000-yard season, what else is new?

-There was no battle for FB, as Anthony Wells was thought to be the clear winner, but Josh Sindle has amassed slightly better receiving stats, and his runs are absolutely bruising.

-Blake Riddle is ready to return, but Chris Winters has played well enough that he will stay at LT, and Riddle will be inserted at RT, despite Jim Sindle's strong play in his absence.

Tyrell Martin makes it all the way to the endzone on a kick return. He would also score by extending a short pass.
