Injuries and personnel moves

On the last play of the week 5 game against the Termites, Lester Walker gave up a safety and injured his shoulder. He will miss at least a month.

With the trade deadline looming, the Blizzard chose to trade icon WR James Logan to the Aguilas for a 1st- and a 2nd-round pick.

They also traded icon CB Lomas Homan to the Quakers for S/CB Marty Truman, a 1st- and a 3rd-round pick. Anchorage now holds 3 first-round picks, 3 second-rounders and 4 third-round picks.

Down two wide receivers, the team brought back veteran WR Derek Rose. They also signed back G/T Bob Sapp.

-Kurt Shade will get some time at WR2. He also tried out at the opened CB spot, but it was not the appropriate time to switch him to defensive back. Newcomer rookie Marty Truman will be starting at cornerback opposite Raven Bender.

-Ricky Curry will get a look as a starter at right tackle. Germane Rowe was not horrible but he was not stellar either.

I hope you're right! He first caught my eye with his potential for special teams blocking (RBK 52). I knew because for the past few seasons, I've been taking a peek at the RBK of the draft class. Yes, only that one attribute, because there's no way to know it otherwise.

He's pretty much built in the same mold as Josh Christensen. That's why I gave him jersey #12. Speedy (SPD 97), but not stellar agility or acceleration (AGI 80, ACC 80). Yet, he shows he can definitely contribute on offense, as he's been leading the voting for OROY.

My initial plan was to convert him to CB and make him block on punt/kick returns. But for now, I am leaving him at his natural WR position and we'll see how this goes. It would be fun if he could play on both sides of the ball at some point, see how he compares to Christensen. But whatever his contribution is, he is already proving valuable.

Nate Clarke is still throwing touchdown after touchdown. Brenden Bowens and Kurt Shade are the main targets, and veteran TE Charles Jones is having the best season of his career.

Newcomer Marty Truman is settling into his new position and new team. After a quiet debut, he has notched two interceptions and forced a fumble.

Lester Walker is back from injury and gave a spark to special teams. He now has 10 return TDs (6 kicks, 4 punts) in 7 games played.

Mystery pick watch: the Blizzard owns the 1st-round picks of the Aguilas and Quakers. Both those teams are in a 3-way tie at the bottom of the league, with 1 win each.

Statistically, it was not Anchorage's best defensive season, but they did something they never did before: have three players with 100 tackles. With 105 tackles, 38 sacks, 5 interceptions and 3 forced fumbles, Ike Roberts was named DPOY.

That's because I never used that exact combination. I do have an Arctic Abyss set I use with an alternate helmet (with the stylized snowflake), but this is a different rendition of the same blue, with the script helmet I usually wear in purple. Playoffs recap

As you may have guessed from my picture spoilers, the Blizzard had a really tough time against the RailRiders.

Wide receivers Kurt Shade and Brenden Bowens both compiled great stats, but those are the catches they couldn't make that hurt the most. Earl Fryar intercepted two passes intended for Shade, and Stephen Anthony deflected pass after pass intended for Bowens.

Marvin Jones threw for 330 yards and 6 TDs, including 162 yards and 3 TDs to Chad Snider. Terrell Rivers, Byron Koch and Martin Nelson also crossed the plane.

Fun fact: without the 2nd quarter, the Blizzard would have won 28-10. Instead:

This set up an AFC championship game between two rivals, the Apocalypse and the RailRiders. Shane Zeigler caught 2 TD passes and Jovon Rhodes booted 3 field goals to help New York outlast Birmingham, 23-13.

In the NFC, the Vortices beat the Steam 24-6 in the wild card game. Howard Boyd caught 9 passes for 152 yards and 2 TDs, and Lamar Ingram rushed for 129 yards and a TD.

San Juan then outlasted the Toronto Phantoms 20-19. Howard Boyd caught a 74-yard TD, and the difference was a 1-yard TD reception by TE Ken Jefferson with 18 seconds to go.

In the NFC championship game, Cade Curry threw two more TDs (to Brett Bronson and Lionel Grant) and the defense intercepted Vince Atkinson 5 times (including 2 picks and a sack by safety Doug Reeves). The Vortices beat the Snowcats 27-15 to make it to the big game against the Apocalypse.

New York opened the score with Josh Emerson's 18-yard TD pass to TE Omar Diller. But before the end of the first half, Curry connected with Grant for a 45-yard TD.

Lamar Ingram rushed for just 53 yards, but a very important 2-yard TD in the 3rd quarter.

Pinned down to their own goal line, Emerson was sacked by veteran/icon SS Billy Martin for a safety to complete the score. MLB Jamaal Tubbs also contributed with 10 tackles, a sack and an interception. San Juan wins 16-7.
