Online play is extremely skippy

I've been tyring to get Madden 08 to work on my new(ish) PC, and for the most part, it's flawless. Offline play is pristine, no crashes or problems whatsoever. However, I'm in a competitive online league, and every time I try to play online, the frame-rate is so bad the game is practically unplayable. It's not internet lag, it's only on my computer side, and it plays like a badly scratched CD; the screen jumps a few frames every second. It's so bad that my eyes physically hurt after a half.

It's obviously not a performance issue; I play the game on my laptop with much lower specs, and it runs just fine. I've toyed with the framerate, matching the game settings at both 60 and 72 with my monitor, and no difference. I installed the 2005 visual C++ service pack, no difference. I've run in compatibility mode, tried the "Run on single core" solution, turned off Vsync, and nothing seems to be making a difference. My GPU is an AMD Radeon 7700 XT. I've played some with the settings in AMD Adrenaline, but nothing seems to have worked.

Since it's competitive, I don't think Calhoupe's are an option, although I could see if I can make it work. We've had some issues with those scripts in the league, though, and it's a hot topic at the moment. I do have the 4gb patch, I believe.

Has anyone experienced this? It seems to be a configuration issue, since it only happens online. Any help would be appreciated!
