Why so inconsistent?

I made a mistake putting Kitchens on a pedestal and naming him the next Josh McDaniels.

They look pretty inconsistent this season. They beat the Ravens last week and totalled 40 points and then racked only 3 last night against the 49ers. It looks like they still have a lot of holes to fill.

Does Mayfield take the blame for all of this? Kitchens? Or the free agents Dorsey managed to get signed over the offseason?

My best guess, at least on offense, is equal parts the new guys gelling together, the O-Line at times not helping Mayfield, Kitchens' play calling (not sure if you saw the 4th down draw against the Rams. Also, the lack of OBJ) and Mayfield regressing a bit and not helping his OL, plus ... we'll, the off-seaoon hype as well. Considering the AFC North has been weak so far (The Steelers are down to their 3rd QB with an inconsistent offense, the Ravens also have regression problems at QB, the Bengals ... are the Bengals) that they can make the playoffs if they right the ship before any of the other 3.

It's everyone's fault. Playcalling, hype, defensive injuries, QB play, etc.

I think they went way overboard with all the hype by players who even though they talk a lot don't do anything remarkable to produce on the field (OBJ, Landry, and Mayfield). I think these players are talented but they should just shut up and play instead of prognosticating about the "great" season they will have like they did this past offseason, they should have just let their play do the talking. Because right now they look pretty stupid with all the talk they said in the offseason and very little production coming from the offensive side of the ball.

The saying is "put up or shut up" and right now they aren't doing both which they need to do.....put up the numbers and (shut up) stop talking to the media/hyping themselves up....

Mayfield does not trust his O line and will only excel in Play action/RPO passes which allow him to roll out (giving him more time) or do quick 5/10 yard slant throws which develop faster. If you look at the Baltimore game he does well on the PA fake run then quick throws. His picks were when he just zeroed in on the receiver before throwing (like Ryan said about 1 read qb)....so he still needs to improve in moving his eyes/going through progressions.

I was never on the Mayfield wagon train, he's over hyped. The Brownies looked great on paper with the off-season FA's. Everyone handed them the North without playing a single snap during the off season, I scoffed the idea!!! The paper pickup's have not translated to great play on the field yet! As usual they need more time to gel with the talent they have. But they don't have time! They have growing pains because everyone expected them to transform overnight! Baker is NOT that guy! The WR's are regressing because of Baker's roller coaster play! And I think if they don't win, they will get frustrated and start to point fingers in the locker room! The division is the Raven's to lose!

I agree the Ravens are the strongest of the division and will probably win it easily this year.
