Modding .dat files
I'd like to make some coding edits to the .exe file for experimentation purposes. To go along with that, I'd like to edit the ver.dat file to a different number. I've not had an issue opening the exe file for editing, but I can't figure out how to get the .dat file to decrypt. I know people here have modded those files, though; any ideas?

Unzip that file, run the Quick BMS app and point it to the script file located in the script folder. Then set the DAT file and output folder.
