I haven't checked ebay, maybe you can find it cheaper over there. There is quite the community for rFactor and online racing leagues are still very active.

I'll have to look into that. Thanks for the screenshots, answers, and links. ;)

Another place to go for add-ons would be

http://www.nogripracing.com

Some other sites that I go to for rFactor mods:

http://www.enduracers.com
(An endurance racing mod - one of the best I've ever driven)

http://www.drivingitalia.net/forum/inde ... &showcat=2
(Has a lot of add-ons including a really cool HUD that gives you a ton of information while your driving)

http://39data.web.fc2.com
(Links are at the bottom left of this page. Note: many of the links may be dead because they went to megaupload pages.)

https://shiftstreet.wordpress.com
(The Holy Trail - THE STREET SHIFT MOD!!! You can drive all kinds of street this one so you're no longer limited to racing on a track. Take these out on some of the bigger road courses or street courses you can use in rFactor and you will not be disappointed!)

http://sstrcaraddons.neocities.org
(Additional add-on cars for the Street Shift mod.

http://www.wcp-series.com
(If you are into Formula One this is the place to go.)

It's a pity that VHR isn't up anymore because that's the place to go for what I think was the best NASCAR SIM out there. I think I still have the installation files for VHR 10-14 however, and if I do I can put them up and provide links for them. Yeah, I know a lot of people accused Dave of stealing a lot of the stuff that went into that mod, but truthfully a lot of guys stole stuff to make NASCAR mods back then and there was a lot of jealousy and trolling over on rFactorcentral. Which in the end was probably why modding for stockcars died over there finally. Waaaaaaay too much drama for a driving SIM.

Anyway, off the top of my head that's what I can come up with. There are also paintjobs for cars you can download at rFc - yes, including some of mine. So take a good look over there and see whatever tickles your fancy.

Also keep in mind that rFactor 2 is now out - however the mod community hasn't quite caught up with it yet as it is still in the beta stage if I have this right. I'm not sure if there is a full release of that yet - I could be wrong. But the newer version includes new features like engine wear, changing track conditions and tire wear, so it forces you to be a driver who cares more for the vehicle in the end. It's based off of the rFactor Pro simulator that they provided to racing teams for use in working on setups and race prep.

http://www.nogripracing.com is good one!!!

I also need to mention Dirtworks Designs, because they are the group I spend most of my time with. They make the best tracks! all dirt ovals, and have Sprint Cars, Late Models, Street Stocks, and two different kinds of Modifieds.

http://www.dirtworksdesigns.com/

Also, (as mentioned before) http://www.gottmotorsports.com is my other rFactor hotspot.

Pretty neat seeing you over here bigdaddycool, I have downloaded and enjoyed your VHR skins.

https://www.rfactorcentral.com/painters ... gDaddyCool

I haven't added anything to my painter profile in a long time, because Shane doesn't post his stuff on rfactorcentral.com for some weird reason. Also, the DWD guys don't put their stuff up there much anymore.

Wow... this deal is a lot bigger than I had thought.

I may have to get into this.

Another site that I thought of:

http://www.simtek.pt/#

GpFan has done wonders creating an add-on for the Enduracers Endurance mod. He did cars for the seasons from 2008-13 for ALMS, FIA-GT, LMS and 24LM. He also did a stand alone endurance mod called WES (World Endurance Series) which includes the cars for WEC, TUSCC and ELMS.

He's also working on mods for rFactor 2 now, just line Enduracers have started to do.

Okay, I downloaded rFactor. I messed around with it a little bit; tried the stock car and the F1 car.

I was going to download a mod, but here's my question:

Where should I start?

Are there any mods that you would recommend to a beginner? Should I use a mod enabler like JSGME to switch between mods? How do I play online multiplayer?

You veterans know the answers to all these questions, but I'm just overwhelmed with the quantity of content that's available for this game, and I want to do right.

Well, first off our don't have to use a mod enabler to switch between mods, rFactor allows you to do that in game. However, here is a little tip for you: I have found that with different genres of mods it is helpful to have different versions of rFactor. For example, I have my main rFactor directory but I also have a copy of the main rFactor files in another folder called "Enduracers" for my Endurance racing mods, and "GT Legends" for my sports car mods depicting the 60's and early 70's. That way I can have my controller settings set for each genre and I don't have to keep switching out different controller files for each mod. I also have a different icon set for each genre on my desktop, so if I want to go endurance racing I just choose the icon that looks like a LeMans prototype and it loads that specific version of the game.

As for a mod to begin with, that depends on what you're into. Stock cars? Touring cars? Open wheel? Go karts? Do you want to go racing against others? Race offline? Or do you just want to take a car out for a drive on a track or a massive road course? Just check out rFactorcentral.com and see what appeals to you - you will have to register to download anything there however. And honestly, there's really no right way or wrong way to do this, it just depends on what you want to do or go.

Thanks for responding.

First, if there are any mods that basically everyone has, then I obviously want to get those.
Second, if there are any mods that you think are exceptionally good, I'd like to try them out as well.
Third, I want to get this mod:

There is a lot of rFactor content spread all over. If you are looking for that dirt oval stuff (and hooray if you are) look no further than https://www.facebook.com/DirtworksDesigns/?fref=ts DWD has those modifieds for download. http://www.dirtworksdesigns.com/ There is this handy resource, this is where you can get the Chili Bowl http://thedirtpile.net/

Ram Racing and Z Racing are leagues that are currently running that stuff I know of. You can look them up on facebook and get their schedule and teamspeak info and such and go racing. Ram Racing announces events a lot.

Good grief! Currently it is running for $40 over at amazon.

Ouch, that's gonna hurt... I might have to wait a while for this one.

Do you think the game would run well on my PC? I'm just using a Dell laptop with 4GB RAM.

Thanks for that link; that site looks amazing.

Try Steam,i got rfactor recently for under 5 bucks, the downside is that you have to download Steam and use it,other than that you would be good to go...As of this evening until the Steam winter sale is over,it's 7.49 usd, which is a great deal imho.
