Modding Fundamentals

Postby elguapo » Tue Jun 10, 2014 2:47 pm

Itroduction
A short series of tutorials for modding Madden NFL 08 PC. This is what everyone who uses Madden NFL 08 PC should know even if they don't intend to mod.

Lesson 1 - Decompressing Files
In order to start modding we need to decompress the data files before we can mod them. For decompressing Madden files use Stingray68's Madden Resource Editor.

Lesson 4 - Creating Custom BMP Art
PDF Manual

Image

Paint.NET
Spoiler:

Photoshop CS2
Spoiler:

The main thing is to index it with transperancy. Then open the color table and reassign the transparency palette (white) to hot pink.

Q&A
Spoiler:
Are there videos for endzone, mainlogo and slivers?
No. The same process is used for all size images.

How do I add the sliver logo?
Madden NFL 06 was the last version to include the option of inserting a sliver logo. For Madden NFL 07 and 08 external editors are needed.
1. DFR4 - Open your customart.dat file.
2. Extract file #5.
3. Use DEX or MUER to replace the image. (save)
4. Insert file #5 back into your customart.dat file.

How do I make the transperancy palette the first color?
Convert the image back to RGB.
Then index the image again but this time uncheck the transperancy and select custom palette and assign the first palette to hot pink.

Modderators feel free to edit the topic to include any material related to custom teams.

Miscellaneous
Direct X Redistributable 2006. Installing this will add a DDS preview image.

NOTE: I will be removing old videos as they have become outdated from the youtube page.

Thanks so much elguapo! Looking forward to the stadium editing and I hope you might have video on resizing/moving field graphics and perhaps hex editing to remove scoreboards, etc.

Could you do a video on coach editing too? I am trying to make Bill Cowher with Steelers jackets/shirts to coach the 1995 Steelers team but I can't get him to wear anything but a white shirt.

I thought you already knew how to edit the TMdl?

Stadium files are a little tricky. When you replace the stadium files they need to be the exact size, if not it throws of the offset and makes madden crash. I haven't messed around with removing scoreboards but I think if you do, the offset will be thrown off. Until we learn more about how the TMdl works then we'll probably be able to change things around in the 3D model.

Mike9472 is the coach guru, you might try asking him.

LOL, yes but when I forget something, your video would help me remember...

I thought slydways had some sort of breakthrough on removing a scoreboard but maybe that post was taken down...hmmmmmmm

Realplayer used to be able to download youtube videos but i think they now charge for it.

You can try free on screen capture software like http://camstudio.org/ or you can google online youtube down loaders. Just be careful with those sites because they might flood you with spam.

It is not a breakthrough if it is not widely used. He claims he was able to do it but never uploaded a file we could use or test. The only "proof" he had was an image which he could have photoshoped the scoreboard out.

slydways took everything from this site and moved it to his site, a site that you visit frequently... doesn't he have his "breakthrough" there? You can't fool everyone on this site slydways. ;)
