Originally this post pertained to the Madden 12 PS2 animations, disregard the replies and discussion below. Later in the thread Harry97 and I got the Madden 06 animations to work in Madden 08 and that's what V.1 consists of. He chopped up the 06 ANIMDATA with 700+ animations and modded it to fit the 644 slots 08 requires, then I swapped some PS2 Madden 12 files to get it to run in game without crashing.

You'd think going backwards in the series wouldn't be an upgrade but the 06 animations are smoother, and it's ANIMDATA has more slots than 08's by about 50. I haven't had this file crash at all. This file is brand new to Madden 08. Test it and report your findings. It consists of Madden 12 and Madden 06 animations combined to work with Madden 08. Here are some highlights, the 06 animations are slower due to Madden 06's gameplay being slower focus more on gang tackling while the Madden 12 animations are just like 08's but quicker, specifically the throwing motions. Here are some clips, though it might take a trained eye to see some of the differences:

The only "bug" is sometimes players will get off the ground like a vampire rising from it's casket, not a big deal to me:

First, you forgot to mention that you have to rename the file to ANIMDATA.DAT
Second, this is already known and it causes your sideline players to look deformed.

Any idea on why? I think it'd be worth looking into, giving M08 new life would be an understatement with these. Would it do that if those player graphics were replaced with a TPF?

This is very interesting. Does this confirm that the sideline models are in ANIMDATA.DAT? I am trying to figure out how to expand the sidelines (# of players on the sideline) in NCAA 06. If you or anyone else can confirm that the sideline data can be found in ANIMDATA.DAT, please do. Has anyone been able to actually edit the sidelines in Madden, or know which file(s) we would need to edit?

Thanks for testing this and confirming that it works and actually updates the animation engine. I did a similar thing to update animations for FIFA 10 PC (the last PS2-era PC FIFA) and using a file from FIFA 13 PS2 which had more / updated animations. When I put this PS2 file in FIFA 10 PC (I think it was an animation file within motion.big) into FIFA 10 PC the animations were improved and it actually fixed some of the animation glitches that FIFA 10 PC had. Long story short, using the updated PS2 file in the PC game really improved the gameplay.

It sounds like you did a similar thing with Madden, took the "updated" animations (ANIMDATA.DAT) from the later PS2 games (like I did with FIFA) and used those updated animations in the PS2 DAT to make the PC version's animation better.

I'm wondering if the Madden 12 PS2 ANIMDATA.DAT has the same # of files as Madden 08 PC's ANIMDATA.DAT. I think I tried to put in NCAA 08's ANIMDATA.DAT into NCAA 06 and crashed, which was probably because they added more files within that DAT for NCAA 08. I bet if I only replaced the files that were in NCAA 06's it would update some of the animations, which given how glitchy NCAA 08 was compared to NCAA 06 might not be a good thing .

But it's something to try. I bet with Madden 12 PS2's ANIMDATA.DAT, not only are you seeing new animations, but that the gameplay in general is much improved and there are less animation glitches. That's the experience I had with FIFA 10 PC when I put FIFA 13 PS2's animation file in there. It felt like a completely updated game with those new and updated animations in there.

Good to know. That's why it doesn't crash, because it has the same # of files. When you have a different # of files that's typically when DATs crash the game, at least in certain DATs for NCAA 06 PS2 / NCAA 08 PS2.

I think with the ANIMDATA.DAT situation for Madden 08 PC / Madden 12 PS2, they probably just updated a lot of those files, maybe "expanded" certain animations (files within the DAT) while keeping the number of animations the same. Probably the file size of many of the files in that .DAT are different, maybe larger in Madden 12 PS2's ANIMDATA.DAT which is why you're seeing new animations. They just probably replaced the old ones with newer, smoother, better looking, maybe in some cases longer animations.

As far as possibly adding NCAA animations into Madden, or vice versa, that's something I'm very interested in testing. It may not work though. I'll take a look at NCAA 06/08's ANIMDATA.DAT, I bet NCAA PS2 has a different number of files than 644. That doesn't mean certain files wouldn't be compatible with one another but we would have to do a detailed comparison between the two .DATs to see if we can find any similarities that would tell us which animation (file/slot#) from Madden would relate to which one from NCAA. I know that NCAA has some different gameplay/animation features than Madden like that test of strength tackling mini-game in NCAA that sometimes happens when tackling a RB, when you have to mash the X button to determine if the RB gets tackled or if he breaks the tackle. That animation would probably cause Madden to crash

One thing I'm very interested in is trying to get Madden PS2's sidelines into NCAA. Because Madden PS2's sidelines have a lot more players than NCAA's sidelines. If in fact the # of players on the sidelines is in ANIMDATA.DAT then maybe we can find the file from Madden 12 PS2 and try getting those Madden sidelines into NCAA 06.

Let me know what happens with it, it'd be awesome to see Madden QBs have the NCAA throwing motion animations. I assume blindly extracting and inserting files isn't the best way to go, but I don't see another way.

I'm about to check NCAA 06's ANIMDATA.DAT and NCAA 08's as we speak. I'll let you know how many files it has in it. This could be our project. You trying to get NCAA PS2 animations into Madden 08 PC and me trying to get Madden 12 PS2 animations into NCAA 06.

OK :

NCAA 06's ANIMDATA.DAT has 1128 Files!!

NCAA 08's ANIMDATA.DAT has 1130 Files!!

So NCAA PS2 has a LOT more animation files than Madden. I'm not surprised, it's a much deeper gameplay engine in many ways.

The fact that NCAA 08's ANIMDATA.DAT has 2 more files than NCAA 06 is very interesting. Now I want to use DFR3 to try and make NCAA 08's ANIMDATA.DAT compatible with NCAA 06.

I'm comparing NCAA 06's ANIMDATA.DAT with NCAA 08's ANIMDATA.DAT and WOW. There are some differences and some similarities. Lots of file size differences of the same files (so updated animations). NCAA 08 has some files NCAA 06 doesn't have but the opposite is true as well. I definitely will be trying to make NCAA 08's ANIMDATA.DAT compatible with NCAA 06 which could lead to completely new gameplay!!

I'm also comparing NCAA's ANIMDATA.DAT with Madden 08 PC's and WOW. There are similarities to a lot of the files if you look at the First 15 Byres in DFR 5. I notice that Madden 08 PC has about 30 compressed files in ANIMDATA.DAT whereas all NCAA's files in ANIMDATA.DAT are decompressed. Very interesting. Much of the hex data is similar between the different ANIMDATA.DATs, perhaps they just need to be rearranged or files replaced 1 by 1 into the appropriate slots to be compatible with one another. You should definitely try getting some of the NCAA PS2 animation files into Madden by looking at the text in 1st 15 Bytes in DFR5 to see which files are which. Also decompress those compressed files in Madden's to see if you can match those with more of the NCAA files.
